Senator Chuck Schumer brought his calls for Congress push through legislation that would relax hemp laws to Tioga County on Friday — Something industrial hemp growers say would help increase production.

Especially in Tioga County, where there are already 5 of 118 industrial hemp licenses under a state pilot program,

In addition, High End Multi Processing, a company based out of Spencer, will be opening a major processing facility to serve not only Tioga County, but all farmers throughout the region and the state growing industrial hemp. Combined, Tioga County is poised to become an industrial hemp epicenter, bringing a wave of new jobs and opportunities into the area,” said Jeff Luciano Founder and CEO of High End Group and High End Multi Processing LLC.

Passage of the Hemp Farming Act of 2018 means farmers would be allowed to grow hemp as an agricultural commodity, opening up a new cash crop that Schumer said has potential to add millions of dollars to the local economy.

The  Hemp Farming Act of 2018 was part of the recently passed Senate Farm Bill, but not included in the House version.
